INSPIRATION
Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo is a Mexican artist whose work mainly consists of her culture and experiences. In, Self Portrait with Bonito, Kahlo created this painting in honor and rememberence. This because her pet parrot died, which was something very though for he to deal with. Though it was meant for the passing of her parrot, it was also symbolizes and is in honor of the passing of her father.

"Self Portrait with Bonito"
by Frida Kahlo
The painting, Self Portrait with Bonito, by Frida Kahlo is where I drew my inspiration from. I wanted to connect myself to what Kahlo was experiencing. The loss of a pet, friend and or father is very difficult to deal with. The pet that I lost was my pet fish. This fish was the first pet that I ever had. Though we couldn't develop a strong connection I still cared for him. I enjoyed being able to watch him swim around and feed / clean him. When I found out that my fish died I was very sad and upset so I can not imagine what others who did have a strong relationship with their pet were going through.
PLANNING
Sketches
Sketch 1 |
Sketch 2 |
Sketch 3 |
In these sketches I was getting the ideas down as to what I wanted to include for he final sketch. The first and second sketch were the basis to get sketch three. I was deciding whether or not I wanted to include the same elements as, Self Portrait with Bonito, or not. I did not like how it was looking so I decided to change the elements but keep the same concept.
Rater than painting myself in front of a background of leaves, I am in front of a background of seaweed and water. In my painting I am going to be under water unlike Kahlo's pinting where she is above ground. Frida Kahlo's painting included her parrot who passed away. The pet that I will include in my sketch is my pet fish who also passed.
