Exhibition Text
What I want to show is the openness and closeness of people. In everyday life no one person is really the same. The openness meaning, welcoming. How for some people it's really easy for those people to open up. While the closeness signifies, people who are more reserved. It can also be referred to as extrovertness and introvertness.
INSPIRATION
Nicholas Harding
John Olsen AO, OBE |
Nicholas Harding is an Australian artist who does many paintings and drawings.
|
The picture to the left shows a painting with a person in it which helps give that feeling to the piece. I will not include that in my work. In the drawings that I am doing I want the couch to represent the person who sits in it. To tell the story of the person through this pieces of furniture.
Michelangelo
The Creation of Adam |
Michelangelo is an artist who created several paintings and sculptures over the years with great technique.

Relating to My Theme
The theme that I have throughout this process is growing up. For many of us this means different things and even brings back memories. We begin to almost relive what, "those days" were like.
What my work here revolves around is this idea and feeling of welcoming and reserved; Introverted and extroverted to an extent.
For me growing up brings me back to when I was a kid hanging-out with friends and family all the time. In this case this is true for many people, but not everyone can say this. Which is something that I can also somewhat relate to.
As a kid I was someone who people said was, always "happy." Or at least for them this meant that, they always saw me talking to everyone, constant smiles. But eventually this slowly changed. As time progressed I just began keeping more to myself not being so expressive. Though I am no longer that quiet I still am a little.
There are people can relate to this but still have a very rough time opening up. All of this is what I wanted to show in this illustration.
PROCESS
Experimentation
Color Pencil Sketch 1
These photos show the process of coloring the chair bit by bit. Here I began with a pencil outline of everything. Then Followed by coloring in the arms of the chairs.
After doing the arms of the chair I then moved forwards with the cushion, making look as though it's a bit worn down. Then I did the bottom of the chair and the legs then finishing with the back cushion.
These next I started with the hand in the background. I started with a pencil sketch then it laid down the base colors. In my sketch I had a sky background with clouds but here I decided to keep it a smoother blue.
Theses are the colors that were used in both sketch 1 and sketch 2
Color Pencil Sketch 2
These photos show the process of the couch being colored. The first thing I did was do the pencil outline of where every thing was going to be. Afterwards I began to color in the arms and bottom parts of the couch.
Here is where I began to color in the couch. To keep the feeling of introvertedness I decided to make the couch look new as though no one really sits in it.
After coloring in the wall and the floor I moved on to drawing the hand that is in the painting behind the chair.
Techniques
For the techniques that were used for this drawing was, essentially, layering. I wanted everything to go with each other nicely so what I did for each piece of the couch and other areas I placed a layer of color of how dark or light I wanted an area.
